First is always special, always memorable: the first plane ride, the first marathon, the first kiss. It doesn’t have to be the best, and most times it turns out to be the worst. But it is outstanding by virtue of it breaking new ground.
And so today another milestone is reached as I sign above the dotted line. She does a quick check, unhooks the keys from the crowded bunch, and hands them over to me. They are battered, greasy and scream “utility”, but they are the first.
